Nice Trust calls for more voter registration awareness in Dedza

National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust programmes manager Daniel Malango has expressed concern with the low turnout of people registering for the 2025 General Elections.

Speaking on Monday in Dedza, Malango observed that in some centres less than 100 people were registered. He said there is need for more awareness to reverse the trend.

“The highest we to captured was Chimbiya which had close to 200,” he said.

Malango called on stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to sensitise communities on the importance of registering and voting in the general election.

He expressed concern that the youth are not showing interest in the electoral process.

Dedza Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace diocesan coordinator Lawrence Puliti said the registration process in Dedza has started on a low note.

He said there is a need for a quick assessment to establish the reasons for this.

Puliti said stakeholders should intensify awareness so that people for realise that leaders of their choice can be voted for if they register.

Dedza district has 266 registration centres.

Malawi Electoral Commission on Monday started the first phase of voter registration ahead of the 2025 General Elections.

The exercise cover 14 district councils
